WHAT:
Based on Jackie’s Rhythm & Body Movement R&B(m) workshops used in her teachings at Brown/Trinity MFA Program and Trinity Rep’s YASI Masterclasses, this drop-in class incorporates Hip-Hop and Afro-Caribbean choreography while encouraging participants to have a full and FUN cardio workout.
Each session begins with a choreographed warm-up, stretches, core work, and floor work before diving into an hour of Afro-Caribbean-based choreography interspersed with hip-hop, improvisational, traditional, and current dances. All classes are accompanied by a drummer, Kalimaro Otto-Gentry. Added benefits include: identifying where (and how) the body carries/holds stress, releasing tension through movement, and learning to allow space for movement, breath, and sound. Yes, SOUND!
This class is designed for all levels and experiences. Anyone over the age of 14 is welcome to join the space - no prior dance experience is required. Just come and be ready to move!
