Starting September 2024, The Wilbury Theatre Group is thrilled to announce the launch of The Booboisie (boo-bwah-zee), the first year of a transformative two-year certificate course designed for dedicated students seeking to deepen their understanding of physical theater and expand their creative horizons.
Building upon the foundational skills taught in our always popular Embodied Action drop-in class, The Booboisie offers a more focused and rigorous learning experience. This course is ideal for individuals who have consistently attended Embodied Action for at least six months and are ready to take their training to the next level.
Meeting every Monday evening from 8 PM to 10 PM, The Booboisie serves as a bridge between the fundamentals of physical performance and the advanced, project-based work of our soon-to-be-created Community Performance Lab. Students will explore a range of physical theater techniques, including mask work, clown, somatic practices, Grotowski, Viewpoints, and self-scripting. Through this immersive approach, participants will develop a profound understanding of their bodies as powerful instruments of expression.
In addition to weekly classes, students in The Booboisie will have the exciting opportunity to showcase their work through monthly performances as part of SNAFU, our brand-new variety show debuting in October 2024. These performances provide invaluable experience in front of a live audience, allowing students to apply their learning in a real-world context and hone their craft.
Admission to The Booboisie is by application, audition, and interview, ensuring that the course maintains a high standard of dedication and artistic excellence. Upon completing The Booboisie, students are encouraged to continue their training as part of the Community Performance Lab, where they will further refine their skills and develop original, cutting-edge work. (Aiming for a debut in the Fall of 2025.)
Don't miss this opportunity to embark on a transformative journey of physical theater and unleash your creative potential. Apply now for The Booboisie and take the first step towards a thrilling future as a creator of original theatrical work.
