Intern at The Wilbury Group!

The Wilbury Theatre Group offers unpaid summer, semester, trimester and year-long internships opportunities to qualified college students and young professionals eager and interested in learning more about the artistic, management and development side of running a growing, non-profit professional theatre company. Internships are available in Artistic Management, Education, and General Administration. 

Whatever their chosen area of focus, all of our interns are encouraged and expected to work as equal collaborators with theatre professionals on professional  quality productions.

Artistic Internship

Working closely with the Artistic Director and production team as needed, the Artistic Intern contributes to and provides support for a wide range of artistic programs including literary management, new play development, youth education programs, community outreach and other functions managed by artistic departments of The Wilbury Theatre Group.

Duties may include:

• Read, review and discuss play scripts under consideration.
• Provide administrative support to literary functions including correspondence, database management, volunteer recruitment and supervision, organization of play readings and workshops, and other tasks associated with the artistic department.
• Assist or teach classes for The Wilbury Theatre Group education program.
• Moderate and help to administer post-show discussions
• Support Artistic staff as required on such tasks as auditions, new play readings, dramaturgy, special events and other functions as needed.
• Participate in artistic and education staff meetings to shape and plan future activities, especially season planning.

An intern in this position would receive a broad overview of the organization and how it functions as a whole. The person in this position should possess basic knowledge of accounting principles and practices, facility with Microsoft system computers including Windows and Excel, as well as refined standards of organization and attention to detail, and other fundamental administrative skills. Part-time internships are unpaid, and available for a year or semester length, college course credit may be available.

Education Internship

The Wilbury Group seeks an Education Intern who is interested arts education and program administration to help enrich our growing education programs. The internship focuses mainly on our youth outreach programming, where the intern will be mentored by our team of teaching artists and Education Director and develop the skills necessary to facilitate creative drama and playmaking classes for all ages. They also have the opportunity to explore the other areas of the department as they please and create programming that they are passionate about. 

Duties will include...

• Assist in The Wilbury Group's after-school programming at least two days each week during the semester, serving as a lead teaching artist when needed
• Serve as a member of our Education Committee to help plan future education programming
• Work with the Education Director to seek out and solicit funding opportunities for our programs
• Help plan our Family Fringe event and our summer youth production
• Serve as a teaching artist during our school vacation camps, where they will have the opportunity to help build a curriculum from scratch

Part-time internships are unpaid, and available as a summer, semester or year-long opportunity. College course credit may be available. During the school year, the education intern must have availability during after-school hours (generally 3pm-6pm, with some flexibility) at least two days a week. Other hours are flexible. BCI and fingerprinting required. Experience with youth a plus, but not necessary.
