by Samuel Beckett, directed by Fred Sullivan Jr.
September 26 - October 20
From an inauspicious beginning at the tiny Left Bank Theatre de Babylone in 1953, followed by bewilderment among American and British audiences, Waiting for Godot has become of the most important and enigmatic plays of the past fifty years and a cornerstone of twentieth-century drama. “Time catches up with genius …Waiting for Godot is one of the masterpieces of the century” (The New York Times).
NEWS & REVIEWS
"Extraordinary...You must see the brilliantly-acted version staged through Oct. 20 at the Wilbury Theatre...seeing this faithful version to Beckett's original vision staged simply, comically, and authentically by director Fred Sullivan Jr., reaffirms in my mind this is one of the 10 most important plays ever written."
-RI Central Newspapers
"Outstanding...Waiting for Godot is left up to the audience to interpret, for the most part. The beauty of having such a tight production and skilled cast is that the message, however you take it, is entertaining."
-The Providence Journal
“A play in which nothing happens has never been so entertaining or seemed so fresh. Wilbury keeps bringing the talent to its productions, and here is another winning combination."
-Edge Providence
"Don't wait to see Wilbury's stunning Waiting for Godot...
While it has been misinterpreted and murdered by many amateur groups (I’ve seen my share), the Wilbury Theatre Group has got it right in this stunning professional production."
-Warwick Beacon
"Excellent performances....a physical, very funny take on Samuel Beckett’s minimally sketched story about two men with nothing to do but wait for their next disappointment."
-Law and Order Party
"Director Fred Sullivan masterfully takes us on this comic but informative journey...Be sure to catch Waiting for Godot to witness superb acting and direction before time runs out."
-Theater Mirror
"Waiting for Godot opens the Wilbury Theatre Group's 2019/2020 Main Series with a production that gets to the heart of the text - at equal turns funny, philosophic, and sad....don't wait - this is a production you should rush to see.
-Broadway World
"At once tender, irreverent and tragic...While this may be a play where nothing really happens, the Wilbury space is filled with emotion, movement and sound for the next few weeks. Book tickets to this bawdy and delightful rendition of a classic."
