WHAT:
Come and play with Queen Lena! From the world of award-winning local author Mariahadessa Ekere Tallie, this workshop will explore the world of a 5-year-old girl named Queen-Lena who loves riding her scooter with friends but hates rainy days. Her family teaches her some of their favorite games and she wants to teach you! Children from ages 5-to 9 will gather to share stories about games, play and create original moments of theater from Tallie’s text. This weekend workshop will culminate in a guided sharing for families to watch and enjoy.
Wear comfortable clothing. Bring a snack. Be ready to play!

About the Artists:

Suzu Ledoux is a theatre artist and educator from the north of England, currently living in Rhode Island and teaching Theatre at Achievement First in Providence. She worked as Drama Teacher at the IDEAL School of Manhattan, as the Program Director at Kids Creative for 10 years, and was the Director of Vital Children’s Theatre for 4 seasons, during that time she directed the original production of “Pinkalicious the Musical” and “The Bully."Suzu is an actor with Stranger Attractor, Honest Accomplice Theatre, The Forum Project, and Living Voices. Her teaching artist experience includes CHANGE Arts, Epic Theatre Ensemble, Vital Theatre, Capacity Arts, Border Crossers, and the Creative Arts Team Youth Theatre. She has presented theatre-based workshops at the AATE National Conference, AATE NY Theatre in Our Schools conference, the NYC Arts Education Face to Face Conference, Facing Race, and the ACA Tri-State Conference. Suzu holds a Bachelor's degree in Drama and Arts Education and a Master's in Applied Theatre at CUNY SPS.

Mariahadessa Ekere Tallie is the author of the award-winning children’s book Layla’s Happiness (Enchanted Lion Books), the poetry collections Strut (Agape Editions), and Karma’s Footsteps (Flipped Eye), and Dear Continuum: Letters to a Poet Crafting Liberation (Grand Concourse Press). She is currently a Ph.D. student in the Theatre Arts and Performance Studies program at Brown University. Mariahadessa is the mother of three galaxies who look like daughters. www.ekeretallie.com
