MURDER BALLAD
APRIL 14 - 30, 2016

ABOUT MURDER BALLAD
A love triangle gone wrong, Murder Ballad centers on Sara, an Upper West Sider who seems to have it all, but whose downtown past lingers enticingly and dangerously in front of her. Direct from a sold-out run in New York, this sexy, explosive, new rock musical explores the complications of love, the compromises we make, and the betrayals that can ultimately undo us. Murder Ballad is conceived by Jonathan Larson Award winner and two-time Susan Smith Blackburn Prize finalist Julia Jordan and features music and lyrics by indie rock singer/songwriter Juliana Nash.

NEWS & REVIEWS

"At its core, Murder Ballad is a simple and timeless story of a love triangle (or quadrangle) gone wrong. What makes this show so fresh and compelling, is the fantastic addition of catchy, funny, heartfelt songs and the excellent direction of Wendy Overly and set design of Josh Christofferson. The Wilbury Theatre Group is quickly developing a reputation for staging exciting and fresh musicals, and Murder Ballad is no exception..." -Broadway World

"
Director Wendy Overly has brought together some terrific singer/actors who not only nail the show’s edgy-rock style, but carry the show’s emotional arc to the bloody end...While not for everyone (my mom and anyone under the age of 15 immediately come to mind…) I thoroughly enjoyed Wilbury Group’s production on many levels – for it’s sense of sexy, edgy mystery; how it fed my nostalgia for booze-filled nights at loud dirty clubs; and yes, even a realistic look at what can happen when you wake up and find you’ve “grown up” into a different person." -Motif Magazine

"
A love triangle is hardly unexplored territory, yet this production is fraught with intensity, excitement and emotional electricity...With Passing Strange earlier this season and now Murder Ballad, The Wilbury Theatre Group deserves generous praise and recognition for bringing such daring, distinct musical theater experiences to Rhode Island." -Edge Providence
