As one goes through life, there are many paths they travel, different journeys they embark on. In a sense, the combination of these journeys over the span of a lifetime can be seen as constituting the composition of our lives. Every journey and experience may be defined differently with each individual, but whether the journey is the raising of a child or surviving college, be it falling in love or trying to fall out of a not so reciprocated love, finding identity in the midst of overwhelming diversity, or learning to cope with the loss of a loved one; these different journeys ultimately reach a similar point. An end. In much the same way, each individual's diverging journey of life will in time, reach a similar point of convergence, that is, the conclusion. The Making of a Journey is a show centered around this concept, using music, both instrumental and non-instrumental as well as modern, contemporary and hip-hop dance to explore a life of journeying.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Identifying as a Latina immigrant- Colombian & Ecuadorian, Betty Alvarez migrated to the U.S. at the age of two with her parents. With a family deeply rooted in music, she was exposed at a young age to many different forms of the art. Her father considered learning how to play an instrument a life skill so for that reason, at the age of 7, he urged her to pick up an instrument. In his eyes, if a person had reached absolute rock bottom at any given point in their life, at the very least street performing would provide enough for them to feed themselves. Although Alvarez grew up with a violin never too far from the cradle of her neck, her true and ultimate passion was fashion. She believes in wearing her personality on her sleeves and being able to fully express herself as a person in such a way.
Angel Duggins graduated from Jacqueline M. Walsh High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. She has been dancing for 18 years and has been teaching for 6 years at institutions such as Rising Stars Dance Academy and Thr3e Live Dance Co. She now works as a part of a hip-hop crew called Liv3lihood.
Simon Olaoye, born in Ibadan, Nigeria, was introduced at a very young age to a largely movement based culture, but it wasn't until the age of 14 when he attended Jacqueline M. Walsh High School for the Performing and Visual Arts that he really developed a true passion for the art of dance. Simon now attends the University of Rhode Island as a Kinesiology major. He is currently a company dancer at Metamorphosis dance CO. and works with Ten31 Productions as a living statue artist.
