Cain + Abel
By Ben Jolivet, Directed by Susie Schutt

October 22-November 1

ABOUT CAIN + ABEL
From The Wilbury Group's Playwright-in-Residence Ben Jolivet comes Cain + Abel, a fresh, contemporary take on a classic tale. In the shadow of the deserted garden, two brothers wrestle with faith and desire in the face of uncertainty and fear; two women struggle to find a place beyond the grossest instincts of men; and a lonely traveller grapples with his creation.  Fighting their way into the unknown will demand everything from them and result in the ultimate sacrifice. In the beginning, nothing became something and nobody knew what to do.

Written by Playwright-in-Residence Ben Jolivet, the development of
Cain + Abel is supported by an Arts Access Grant from the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts.
"I commend the Wilbury Group for their initiatives in developing new works. If the scene is going to survive, Rhode Island needs writers for the stage. And good ones. Ben Jolivet nailed it with Cain + Abel and I look forward to his future collaborations with Wilbury." -Motif Magazine

"Jolivet makes the growing rift between the brothers and the actual killing dramatic enough to keep the how and the why compelling. Wilbury's Cain + Abel adds up to truly creative theater." -The Jewish Advocate (Boston)

"The acting by the cast of five is excellent. Audience members are sure to take away different interpretations of the other characters. Is The Traveler really a confused, frustrated God who has returned to earth to make things right, but doesn’t know how? And what about Mariah. Is she a snake? Did she really say “What about them apples?” “Cain + Abel” has potential. For certain, it will make you think. Some may even find it sacrilegious..." -Cranston Herald/Warwick Beacon
