ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:

Sophie Amieva is a French/Spanish theater maker, teacher, producer, and director of notAmuse Theater, founded in 2016. Praised by the New York Times for "display[ing] a fine talent for comedy" She is a physical actor, clown, and also a Butoh dancer. She has performed with the renowned companies Philippe Genty Company, N.T.U.S.A., International Wow, and 600 Highwaymen, and has been a street performer for over two years. In N.Y.C., her work has been seen at Ontological-Hysteric Theater, La Mama Annex, The New Ohio Theater, Theater for the New City, the Brick, and HERE. Sophie has taught in many professional acting studios and as an adjunct professor at NYU Tisch School of the Arts, where she has taught Bouffons and Clown for over 15 years.
At notAmuse, her work blends the contrasting yet complimentary performance forms of Bouffon and Butoh as a way to challenge the age-old power structures in our societies and debunk mythologies and narratives used for over 4,000 years to control bodies and behaviors. |
