PERFORMANCES
FEBRUARY 24 - MARCH 4, 2023
"Magical thinking, superhero fantasies, blackouts, remorse, run ins with the law -- yes, you'll want to strap in for this nature hike through addiction and recovery. The mostly one-man show (explanation to follow) is a (gently) in-your-face encounter with the living demons of the author, Teddy Lytle's unhinged id, and the Wilbury has mounted a crisp, stylish production that retains the raw edges while setting this firmly in theatrical tradition."

SPECIAL EVENT!
Performances February 24 - March 4, 2023
When you can’t remember the single most important event that profoundly changed your life, do you stand a chance at changing for the better? More than a concert, less than a play;  a disjointed collection of true events in a semi-interactive multimedia exploration of mental illness, addiction, recovery, and superheroes.
NEWS + MEDIA
"Playwright Teddy Lytle excavates his own journey through alcoholism and recovery (and recovery, and recovery...) in this one-hour performance piece, directed with sensitivity and style by Harman dot aut. What saves it from being yet another theatrical exercise at "humanizing addiction" is the brutally honest, self-revelatory script and Lytle's earnest, winning performance. It is intensely physical and dialed up to 11 throughout."
- Broadway World review

"At first glance you might think this is a cute show with an older boy and his toys, parading around the stage in his pajamas like a madman. That’s before Wilbury veteran Lytle, a force to be reckoned with, literally opens his brain to expose his various addictions and vulnerability. It is raw to the core, and maybe cathartic. Says Lytle, 'I’m not sharing my story to blame anyone, or educate people, or try to help anyone. It’s a selfish act. This is my story. And I survived it. This is my way of reclaiming my life.'"
- Motif Magazine review

"If I've learned anything from my specific brand of alcoholism, I've learned this: Community is the answer in recovery, we accomplish nothing alone," explains creator Teddy Lytle. "I moved to Rhode Island in pursuit of my MFA in Acting in 2015, three weeks after waking up handcuffed to a hospital bed with a neck brace on; that is to say, my higher learning and mental health struggles became inexorably intertwined."

ABOUT THE ARTISTS:

TEDDY LYTLE is a daring, raw, notably energetic actor, poet, and musician based in Providence RI.  He graduated with a B.A. in Theatre and Music from Muhlenberg College and he achieved his M.F.A. in Acting from Brown University Trinity Rep.  He is a founding member of Spectrum Theatre Ensemble; a frequent contributor to The Wilbury Theatre Group; and a freelance teaching artist and fight choreographer.  Since he began recovery from alcoholism in 2015, it is his mission to dispel the shame around mental health and addiction; to that end, he has collaborated with various New England based theatre companies, such as 2nd Act [formerly known as COAAST] and The 40 Hour Club, to spread awareness of the current opiate epidemic, promote openly talking about mental health, and destigmatize addiction and recovery.

BAY MCCULLOCH is a photographer, a multifaceted-artist, performer, a creative collaborator, and a graduate of Harvard with a concentration in Psychology.  Bay has worn many different hats in her life, and lived in many different places, but ultimately returned to her hometown of Providence RI where she is the current Director of Development and head grant writer for Spectrum Theatre Ensemble.  In 2017 she suffered a traumatic brain injury that exacerbated her ADHD and caused auditory-visual sensory issues; she has since used her extensive experience and knowledge to support neurodivergent inclusion.  She also happens to be Teddy's fiance and is vastly overqualified for this. INSTAGRAM: @benditlikebay
