*REMOUNT! BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND*
NOVEMBER / DECEMBER
ABOUT THE SHOW
Indecent, by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Paula Vogel, is inspired by the true events surrounding the controversial 1923 Broadway debut of Sholem Asch’s God of Vengeance—a play seen by some as a seminal work of Jewish culture, and by others as an act of traitorous libel. Indecent charts the history of an incendiary drama and the path of the artists who risked their careers and lives to perform it. Wilbury Theatre Group's critically acclaimed 2022/23 production played to sold-out audiences and added performances. This remount brings the production back to meet popular demand.

"The intimate setting, profound message, commanding performances and hypnotic music make this production of 'Indecent' truly magical and undeniably unforgettable."
- Broadway World

“Masterly crafted....“The true story of a little Jewish play” by playwright Paula Vogel is given a masterful production at Wilbury Theatre Group in their reconfigured space at Waterfire Arts Center. There is so much in this play, and the play within the play, that will get you thinking about not only censorship, but anti-Semitism and prejudice as well.”

JANUARY / FEBRUARY 2024
ABOUT THE SHOW
The classic dysfunctional family drama has just crashed through into a wholly original place thanks to the genius of playwright Taylor Mac, named "one of the most exciting theater artists of our time" by Time Out NY. Meet Paige, a wife and mother liberated from an oppressive and abusive marriage; Max, her newly out transgender teen; and Isaac, Max’s PTSD-addled older brother, who discovers a brand new war zone when he comes home from Afghanistan. Hir’s crusade to shake up the patriarchy is disarmingly funny, absurd and surprising as it looks at an American family forced to build a new world out of the pieces of the old.

"Exceptionally canny and fascinating piece of writing... in your face, all the way"
– Chicago Tribune

"Sensational—in all senses of the word…audacious and uproarious black comedy, a daring combination of realism and madcap absurdity"
– The New York Times

MARCH / APRIL 2024
ABOUT THE SHOW
When an online adoption process goes sideways, the young boy caught in the middle launches himself into a lone wolf’s journey to find a pack he can call his own. From South Korean playwright Hansol Jung, one of the most imaginative story tellers in the field, comes a wild new play employing puppetry, boxing, and crackling dialogue to tell the affecting story of trust, love, identity, and the families we choose and unchoose.

“A deeply resonant work from one of the American theater’s most complex new voices.” – Chicago Tribune

“Great theatre... Jung is in a class of her own. She wields language like a poet. Her lyrical, precise script perfectly captures our best and worst natures. The play simultaneously celebrates our extraordinary capacity for love, exposes our nastiest inclinations toward selfishness, and admonishes the injustices of our social systems.” – BroadwayWorld

ABOUT THE SHOW
On the streets of Dublin, an Irish musician and a Czech immigrant are drawn together by their love of music. Over the course of a fateful week, an unexpected friendship evolves into a powerful but complicated love story. With songs including the Oscar-winning "Falling Slowly," and a Grammy-winning score performed by talented actor/musicians, Once is a singular live experience now memorably and intimately re-staged by the Wilbury Theatre Group.

"Miraculously retains the intimate feeling and freshness of fringe... it's funny, it's truthful, it sings." - The Times

"The musical has a masterful, even revelatory, book by the Irish playwright Enda Walsh... it is no traditional screen-to-stage adaptation. Rather, it's a textbook example of how to do it right." - Chicago Tribune

"Original and emotionally exhilarating." - Washington Post
